This is Canada's national celebration day (147th). The Dominion of Canada became official on July 1, 1867 with the enactment of the British North America Act, 1867 . When I was much younger we used to call it Dominion Day. In 1982, the Government of Canada officially changed the name to Canada Day.
Sometimes my wife and I go downtown to wander around Parliament Hill, but today we decided to stay put at home and watch on TV. The temperature is supposed to be in the upper 30s with a higher humidity index, also a chance of severe thunder storms, which is not unusual.
We will probably head out to watch a local fireworks display in Orleans around 9 p.m.
