Kip/Kipp Research - 4

4)
Parents of Ira Alexander Kipp

Joseph Whitson Kipp (1857-1931) married Loretta Jane Hannah (1859-1947)
They were married in Brown County, Kansas on September 7, 1879 at Loretta's parents home 7 miles south of Hiawatha. They settled on a farm in Brown County where their first son was born. Later they moved to Willis, Kansas, when the town was started and entered the mercantile business. Their second son was the first child born in Willis. After leaving Willis they lived two years in Howell County, Missouri, (near West Plains) where their third son was born. He died after their return from Missouri and before the birth of their fourth son in Atchinson County, Kansas. They later moved to Horton, Kansas, where their only daughter, Winifred, was born. Kearney County, Kansas was their next location where they lived five years, followed by three years in Norris County, Kansas, after which they returned to Horton and spent the remainder of their lives. Borth died at Horton. Both are buried in the Claytonville Cemetery, four miles north of Willis, Brown, Kansas.
Loretta came to Brown County with her parents in a wagon train in 1867 from near Red Oak, Iowa. Loretta was blind the last twenty-four and half years of her life.
Joseph was 17 when he came to Kansas from Illinois and lived with an uncle (Gilbert Kipp) northwest of Willis.
